Custom Motorcycles
A custom motorcycle is a motorcycle that is highly stylized or which treats aspects such as frame geometry or engine design in an unusual way compared to standard manufacturing. Custom motorcycles are unique or individually produced in a very limited quantity, as opposed to "stock" bikes or "stockers," which are mass produced. In the 1990s and early 2000s, very expensive customs such as those built by Orange County Choppers or Jesse James's West Coast Choppers became fashionable status symbols. You also have companies that are bringing back pinstriping such as Kenny Howard also known as Von Dutch from the 1950s with a continued effort to keep pinstriping alive with Von dutch kustom cycles. Some motorcycle enthusiasts feel that "true" customs are those built in a home garage by the person who will ride his or her own creation. The choppers of the 1960s and 1970s fit into this category.
Some motorcycle manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson and Honda include the word "custom" as part of a model name. If capitalized, "Custom" does not denote a custom motorcycle as described above; rather is part of the model name of a mass-produced motorcycle.
Tim Colson
(owner-builder-visionary)High Energy Customs is owned and operated by Tim Colson. The business is located in Royse City, Texas, which is about 30 miles from Dallas. Tim has many years of experience and has developed a strong background of education in parts, mechanics, and management. Tim has a very strong work ethic and is a perfectionist at everything he does.
Tim's passion for cars and motorcycles began in Denver, Colorado, where he was born and raised. Possessing a very creative mind, Tim was always intrigued with how everything worked and was put together. At the age of 16 he bought a 1968 Chevelle, tweaked it up, and took it to Bandimere Speedway. That is where you could find him on the weekends! At age 18 he decided to get himself a motorcycle and this is where the bike building and customizing all started.
In 1996 Tim moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, where he continued with his passion of racing and bike building. Bristol Dragway was where you could find Tim with his Pro Mod 1957 Chevy that he built himself and also his top alcohol dragster. Tim's dream of having his own motorcycle shop materialized in his 1600 sq ft garage and then later moved to Texas in 2007. High Energy Customs offers motorcycle parts, service, repair, motorcycle customizing, as well as motorcycle and mini chopper sales. Tim ensures that every bike thundering out of his shop is a unique piece of art!
